Psycotherapy

I have a Humanistic Psychotherapy practice in Derbyshire and offer a unique combination of the disciplines of Ericksonian Hypnosis, Psychotherapy and Humanistic Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy.  It is an integrated base of traditional wisdom combined with the latest discoveries.

Humanistic psychotherapy is a solution-focused approach that assists you in your process of moving forward on your unique life-path. We look at what is already working, we work out together what is your own map of reality and your personal resources.  We may go back in time to heal past wounds and develop lifeskills and enhance resources to take you forward to a future that is waiting…

Humanistic psychotherapy has many aspects and may include:

The work of David Grove, symbolic modeling and clean language
Ericksonian Hypnosis
The work of Ernest Rossi
Neuro Linguistic Psychology
Counselling
Story telling

As you are completely unique and we will use the method that works for you to recover and find your happiness and outcomes.

Some of the principles and presuppositions of Humanistic Psychotherapy are:

No matter what you think you are, you are always more than that. In many ways, we believe that this is the most important presupposition. It is important to believe this about yourself, and also about others.
Positive change uses your own internal resources, maintaining the belief that you have everything you need inside of you right now. All processes of growth are ‘internally driven’  and motivated by the beliefs and values of you the individual who is making the changes.
It’s not so much the things that happen to us that affect us.  It’s more to do with how we respond and take meaning from the things that happen to us. By knowing how to manage your state, you will be able to manage yourself better.
Human beings are resourcefully and flexibly equipped to deal with the experiences that they have and the challenges that they face.
All behaviour has a positive intention. The personal yearning that drives our behaviour is usually for something good. The behaviour that is used to fulfil that yearning may also be destructive or unsuccessful, and we are much much more than our behaviour!
Effective therapy empowers us to adjust and utilise our individual resources, patterns and processes and enables us to grow authentically as we engage in life’s challenges and gifts.

In traditional NLP, it is explained that everyone has a conscious mind and an unconscious mind. The conscious mind is that small band of information to which we are aware at any given moment. It is an established fact that we can only hold 7+/- 2 chunks of information in our awareness at any one time, yet the rest of us (the unconscious) is receiving an estimated 2.3 billion bits of information per second. Our conscious mind is like a laser beam in a dimly lit room — it only lights the area where we shine it — and our unconscious mind is the rest of the room. Thinking that we are only our conscious mind would be like saying the rest of the room does not exist. We are more than our conscious minds. Much more!
